Typical use Of Neomycin :To Prevent Or Treat Bacterial Diarrhea And Dysentery. It Is Also Used For Pre-operative Sterilization Of The Bowel And To Reduce Symptoms Of Coma Due To Liver Disease (hepatic Coma); To Cure Infected Wound, Ulcers, Burn, External Ear Infections And Conjunctivitis.
Mechanism of action of Neomycin :Neomycin Prevents The Bacterial Growth By Inhibiting The Synthesis Of Protein In Susceptible Bacterial Cells.
Drug Interaction of Neomycin :Neomycin May Interact With Drugs Including Phenoxymethyl Penicillin, Digoxin, Methotrexate, Acarbose, Atracurium, Cyanocobalamin, Doxacurium, Fluorouracil, Gentamicin, Gestodene And Pancuronium Bromide, Neostigmine And Pyridostigmine. Caution Should Be Taken On The Use Of Neomycin With Drugs Known To Cause Kidney Related Problems, Including Aminoglycosides, Cephalosporins, Amphotericin, Ciclosporin, Capreomycin, Polymixins, Platinum Compounds, Teicoplanin And Vancomycin) And Ototoxicity (including Loop Diuretics, Capreomycin, Teicoplanin, Vancomycin And Possibly Platinum Compounds).
