Generic ( Digoxin )

Typical use Of Digoxin :Acute Left Ventricular Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Chronic Left Ventricular Failure, Congestive Heart Failure, Heart Failure, Ischaemic Heart Disease.
Mechanism of action of Digoxin :Digoxin Inhibits The Na-K-ATPase Membrane Pump, Resulting In An Increase In Intracellular Sodium. The Sodium Calcium Exchanger (NCX)in Turn Tries To Extrude The Sodium And In So Doing, Pumps In More Calcium. Increased Intracellular Concentrations Of Calcium May Promote Activation Of Contractile Proteins (e.g., Actin, Myosin). Digoxin Also Acts On The Electrical Activity Of The Heart, Increasing The Slope Of Phase 4 Depolarization, Shortening The Action Potential Duration, And Decreasing The Maximal Diastolic Potential.
Drug Interaction of Digoxin :Digoxin Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like Acebutolol, Adrenaline, Albuterol, Alfacalcidol, Alprazolam, Aluminium Hydroxide And Oxide, Amiloride (HCl), Amiodarone (HCl), Amlodipine (Besylate), Amphotericin B, Atenolol, Atorvastatin, Azithromycin, Bambuterol, Bendrofluazide, Betaxolol (HCl), Bisoprolol (Fumarate), Bumetanide, Buspirone (HCl), Calcitriol, Calcium, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Gluconate, Captopril, Carbenoxolone (Na), Carteolol (HCl), Carvedilol, Charcoal (Activated), Chlortetracycline (HCl), Cholestyramine, Cinitapride, Clarithromycin, Co-trimoxazole, Colestipol (HCl), Cyclophosphamide, Cyclosporin A, Cytarabine (HCl), Demeclocycline (HCl), Diazepam, Diclofenac (Na), Diltiazem (HCl), Disopyramide, Edrophonium (Cl), Enalapril (Maleate). Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Digoxin :Ventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Fibrillation, Supraventricular Extra Beats, Heart Block, Rhodopsia, Cyanopsia, Castanopsia, Melanopsin, Increased FSH (follicular Stimulating Hormone), Increased Estrogen.

INTERACTIONS OF DIGOXIN

How Digoxin will impact on Pregnancy ?

Studies In Animals Have Shown Risk To Fetus, However There Are No Sufficient Studies In Humans. This Drug May Be Used In Pregnant Women If Benefit Outweighs The Risk. Patients Should Follow The Advice Of The Doctor Regarding Its Use.

How Digoxin will impact during lactation(breastfeeding) ?

Moderately Safe: No Studies Have Been Conducted In Breastfeeding Women, However There Is Possibility Of Ill Effect To The Breastfed Infants; Or Studies Conducted In Breastfeeding Women Show Minimal Non-threatening Side Effects To The Infants. Generic ( Ethanol )

Typical use Of Ethanol :Antidote For Methanol Or Ethylene Glycol Ingestion.
Mechanism of action of Ethanol :Ethanol Affects The Brains Neurons In Several Ways. It Alters Their Membranes As Well As Their Ion Channels, Enzymes, And Receptors. Alcohol Also Binds Directly To The Receptors For Acetylcholine, Serotonin, GABA, And The NMDA Receptors For Glutamate. The Sedative Effects Of Ethanol Are Mediated Through Binding To GABA Receptors And Glycine Receptors (alpha 1 And Alpha 2 Subunits). It Also Inhibits NMDA Receptor Functioning. In Its Role As An Anti-infective, Ethanol Acts As An Osmolyte Or Dehydrating Agent That Disrupts The Osmotic Balance Across Cell Membranes.
Drug Interaction of Ethanol :Ethanol Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like Abacavir, Gabapentin Enacarbil, Mipomersen, Tizanidine, Triprolidine. Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Ethanol :Emotional Lability, Visual Impairment, Slurred Speech, Ataxia (low To Moderate Concentrations), Hangover Effects Eg, Nausea, Headache, Dizziness, Tremor, Lethargy, Amnesia, Hypothermia, Hypoglycaemia (particularly In Children), Stupor, Coma, Resp Depression, Cardiomyopathy, Hypertension, CV Collapse Damage To Brain And Liver Which May Lead To Wernike-Korsakoff Syndrome (chronic Excessive Alcohol Consumption).

INTERACTIONS OF ETHANOL

How Ethanol will impact on Pregnancy ?

The Drug Should Not Be Used By Pregnant Women. Experiences Of Drug Use And Evidence From Studies In Pregnant Women Have Shown High Risk To Fetus. The Risk Of Drug Use In Pregnant Women Outweighs The Benefit.

How Ethanol will impact during lactation(breastfeeding) ?

Possibly Unsafe: Evidence From Studies In Breastfeeding Women Show That There Is A Definite Risk Of Side Effects To The Breastfed Infants. However, Use Of The Drug In Breastfeeding Women Is Acceptable In Spite Of The Risk To The Infants, If The Drug Is Needed In A Life-threatening Situation Or For A Serious Disease For Which Safer Drugs Cannot Be Used Or Are Ineffective. Patients Should Follow The Advice Of The Doctor Regarding Its Use.
