Manufacturer:Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd
Generic Use:Calcitriol , Elemental Calcium
Composition:Calcitriol(0.25 Mcg) , Elemental Calcium(200 Mg)

Generic ( Calcitriol )

Typical use Of Calcitriol :Calcitriol Belongs To A Group Of Medicines Called ‘vitamin D Metabolites’. It Is Used To Treat Abnormalities Of Calcium And Phosphate Metabolism Such As Bone Diseases In People With Kidney Problems (renal Osteodystrophy), And Weakening Of The Bones In Women After The Menopause (post-menopausal Osteoporosis).
Mechanism of action of Calcitriol :Calcitriol Promotes Calcium Absorption In The Intestines And Retention By The Kidneys Thus Increasing Serum Calcium Levels. It Also Decreases Phosphate Reabsorption By The Kidneys Consequently Decreasing Serum Phosphate Levels, Parathyroid Hormone Levels And Bone Reabsorption.
Drug Interaction of Calcitriol :Caution Is Advised In People Taking Medicines Containing Vitamin D (ergocalciferol And Colecalciferol); Diuretics Including Bendroflumethiazide, Chlortalidone And Indapamide; Digoxin Or Digitoxin; Medicines Containing Magnesium, Such As Antacids; Steroid Medicines, Such As Hydrocortisone, Prednisolone And Dexamethasone; Cholestyramine, Or Other ‘ion-exchange Resins’ (used To Treat High Levels Of Cholesterol In Your Blood);and Phosphate.

Generic ( Elemental Calcium )

Typical use Of Elemental Calcium :Acute Hypocalcaemia, Hyperphosphataemia, Hypocalcaemia, In Hypocalcaemic Tetany, Osteoporosis Prophylaxis, Osteoporosis, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Severe Hyperkalaemia.
Mechanism of action of Elemental Calcium :The Skeleton Acts As A Major Mineral Storage Site For The Element And Releases Ca2+ Ions Into The Bloodstream Under Controlled Conditions. Circulating Calcium Is Either In The Free, Ionized Form Or Bound To Blood Proteins Such As Serum Albumin. Parathyroid Hormone (secreted From The Parathyroid Gland) Regulates The Resorption Of Ca2+ From Bone. Calcitonin Stimulates Incorporation Of Calcium In Bone, Although This Process Is Largely Independent Of Calcitonin. The Best-absorbed Form Of Calcium From A Pill Is A Calcium Salt Like Carbonate Or Phosphate. Calcium Gluconate And Calcium Lactate Are Absorbed Well By Pregnant Women. Seniors Absorb Calcium Lactate, Gluconate And Citrate Better Unless They Take Their Calcium Supplement With A Full Breakfast.
Drug Interaction of Elemental Calcium :Calcium Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like Alendronate (Na), Calciferol, Digitoxin, Digoxin, Etidronate (disodium), Fluoride, Iron Salts, Risedronate (Na), Sodium Fluoride, Strontium Ranelate, Tetracycline (HCl), Verapamil (HCl). Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Elemental Calcium :Hypotension, Sinus Bradycardia, Cardiac Arrest, Thirst, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Anorexia, Constipation, Abdominal Pain, Dry Mouth, Syncope, Hypophosphatemia.
