Generic ( Potassium Citrate Monohydrate )

Typical use Of Potassium Citrate Monohydrate : Cystitis, Gout, Kidney Stone.
Mechanism of action of Potassium Citrate Monohydrate :The Metabolism Of Absorbed Citrate Produces An Alkaline Load. The Induced Alkaline Load In Turn Increases Urinary PH And Raises Urinary Citrate By Augmenting Citrate Clearance Without Measurably Altering Ultrafilterable Serum Citrate. Thus, Potassium Citrate Therapy Appears To Increase Urinary Citrate Principally By Modifying The Renal Handling Of Citrate, Rather Than By Increasing The Filtered Load Of Citrate. The Changes Induced By Potassium Citrate Tablets Produce A Urine That Is Less Conducive To The Crystallization Of Stone-forming Salts (calcium Oxalate, Calcium Phosphate And Uric Acid). Increased Citrate In The Urine, By Complexing With Calcium, Decreases Calcium Ion Activity And Thus The Saturation Of Calcium Oxalate. Citrate Also Inhibits The Spontaneous Nucleation Of Calcium Oxalate And Calcium Phosphate (brushite).
Drug Interaction of Potassium Citrate Monohydrate :Potassium Citrate Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like Amiloride (HCl), Spironolactone, Triamterene. Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Potassium Citrate Monohydrate :Allergic Reactions, Abdominal Pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Paralysis.

Typical use Of Citric Acid Monohydrate : Urinary Alkalinization.
Mechanism of action of Citric Acid Monohydrate :Citrate Salts Are Alkalinisers. They Are Commonly Used In Situations Where Long-term Maintenance Of An Alkaline Urine Is Necessary And In The Management Of Chronic Metabolic Acidosis. Citric Acid Is Also Used In Effervescing Mixtures And As A Synergist To Improve The Efficacy Of Antioxidants. It May Also Be Used In Preparations That Are Used In The Treatment Of Dry Mouth And To Dissolve Renal Calculi And Prevent Encrustation Of Urinary Catheters.
Drug Interaction of Citric Acid Monohydrate :Frequent Administration Or Intake Of Large Quantities May Cause Teeth Erosion And Have A Local Irritant Effect.
Side effects of Citric Acid Monohydrate : Local Irritation, Erosion Of Teeth.
